Who’s Honey Boo Boo & Why Should I care?

I rocked my Daisy Duke. . . I showed my belly to the judges. . . Look at this big thing. . . They don’t know a good thing when they see it.” – Honey Boo Boo

It would be near impossible to have made it this far in life without hearing the name or seeing the wonder that is Honey Boo Boo, also and rarely known by her given name Alana Thompson. This sassy 7-year-old from Georgia took America by storm after being featured on an episode of TLC’s Toddler’s and Tiara’s, a reality TV show about the wild world of child beauty pageants. Alana’s personality on-camera (and I’m sure off-camera, too) lead viewers into a collective and long feat of laughter, sprinkled with cringing and disbelief that Honey Boo Boo was even real. Here’s the clip that spread like wild fire: 6 year old BEAUTY QUEEN

That video alone had over 9 million views, so TLC wised up and presented the world with a gift; Honey Boo Boo and her family were given their own show, Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. The show is a complete godsend, showing the everyday happenings of our child star and her oddball family, with pet pig “Glitzy” included.

Regardless of if you take to the likes of Honey Boo Boo or not, she is real and she is happening, whether you like it or not. I happen to like it very much so, except for the poorly photographed Sugar Bear, Alana’s dad. I’m sure he’s nice and all, but every picture of him makes me feel like locking my windows. It’s okay, we can both work on being more photogenic.

Why should you care? Because you have to, because Alana is cute, because her wit can make anyone smile, and because if you don’t- Sugar Bear will find you.
